Our History
The story of Prince of Peace is the story of God keeping His promises to His people. Pouring out His blessings, through His Word, through Holy Baptism and through the Lord’s Supper, God has been faithful to the people at Prince of Peace. Our mission and purpose, therefore, is grounded in Christ’s Great Command to love one another and in His Great Commission to make disciples of all people. The origin of Prince of Peace begins with the establishment of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in New Sewickley Township in 1849 and Trinity Lutheran Church in Freedom in 1869. Over the years, these two churches often shared a pastor and officially merged in 1973. Pastor Preston Wagner guided the merger and new facilities were constructed on four acres of ground generously donated by John and Margaret Rombold. Prince of Peace Preschool began in 1976 and continues to serve the community by providing a Christ centered education for three and four year olds. The school is regulated by the Eastern District of the Missouri Synod and is associated with P.A.L.S. (Pittsburgh Area Lutheran Schools). The Prince of Peace Christian Preschool program provides a blend of secular and spiritual training, all in an atmosphere of Christian love. Our goal as a Christian preschool is to help each child develop Christian habits, such as forgiveness, getting along with others, learning to play as a group, assuming small responsibilities, and generally making a more pleasant transition from home to school. Worship is a spiritual act, an act in which we trust in God and desire the gifts He gives through Word and Sacrament: forgiveness, grace and the righteousness of God. Our Lord speaks and we listen. His Word bestows what it says. At Prince of Peace we gather for worship at 10:15 am on Sundays. Holy Communion is celebrated each week. During the seasons of Lent and Advent additional worship services are offered on Wednesday evenings. Prince of Peace offers many opportunities to learn more about God and serve Him. Once a month our Kidz Club meet providing opportunities for ages 5 to 18 to grow around food, fellowship, and fun. Opportunities also include Bible Study group , altar guild, and other internal ministries. Prince of Peace also partners with other churches, most notably Unionville United Methodist and First Trinity Lutheran, donating to their food bank and homeless ministries. In this way we help our neighbors not only in the Beaver County area, but in the greater Pittsburgh region.
